Nick paced the attic restlessly. Ellis was at the garage working today and he was ready for the mechanic to be home. It had been a week since they had made that midnight agreement to 'take things slowly'. He still didn't understand what Ellis didn't get about why he was so opposed to the arrangement. Taking it slowly was for two people that actually had the chance to have a future together, to build a relationship that would last for the rest of their lives. When Keith and Dave wandered into the kitchen a few minutes later, Ellis was sitting at the table still lost in his thoughts. Keith dragged his worn tank top lower to cover his belly and scratched his head, yawning widely. "Mornin'," he grunted, slumping into a chair across the table from Ellis. "I think yer lock on tha' guest bedroom's stickin', 'cause we got locked out last night."

Nick spent the next few days in a very odd mood. The lust that Ellis had grown accustomed to seemed to have dimmed somewhat, and their encounters were no longer rife with ravishing kisses and the cold brush of hands down his sides or through his hair. He wasn't greeted after work by the slam of his back into the door or accosted while his meals cooked with nipping kisses along his neck by a presence he could feel but not see.

Nick grumbled and shifted as his sleep-fogged mind stirred at the absence of the bubble of warmth he had been in just moments ago. Cool air trickled across bare skin, rousing the gambler enough to stretch out a hand and blindly grope for the covers. When fingers did nothing but scrape lightly against the sheets covering the bed he pried open one eye with a slight groan. Through the darkness he could see Ellis just out of arms reach from him, cocooned in the blankets.
